About the Role
Monks is seeking an experienced and thoughtful hands–on Associate Design Director that will help direct, lead and substantiate exceptional design thinking and strategic design work for the world’s highest–profile brands across a wide range of digital products, destinations and services. You have a deep love for design, its foundations and its principles and your contributions will directly affect designers across Monks globally.
Responsibilities:
- Manage: Direct, build and manage diverse designers and design teams across time zones and cultures, helping to shape meaningful and exciting work. You will be a defining voice on art–creative and design executions.
- Craft & Review: Create, review, guide and enable singular design work, continuously enhancing and pushing towards industry–leading execution, from concept through realization.
- Inspire: Help define, elevate and champion innovative design thinking and design craft for our design community across Monks globally. You possess a keen interest in AI and its potential to enhance and optimize team workflows and outputs.
- Concept: Collaborate, co-direct and co-create with multidisciplinary teams on developing world–class visionary and strategic design proposals, creative concepts and applied design work.
- Present: Shape and articulate convincing creative narratives and critical design rationale. Present with passion and vibrantly substantiate conceptual and applied work to executive internal and external stakeholders.
- Plan: Work together with Operations to effectively organize, plan and allocate design resources.
- Schedule: Work with cross-disciplinary teams to ensure schedules and deadlines are realistic and accurate, making sure necessary course-corrections are identified and implemented.
- Maintain: Articulate and voice your point of view to direct and advance creative work, to improve projects.
About You
- Experience: You have a proven and shown track record of (10 years or more) industry experience concepting, creative directing, pitching, shaping and crafting industry–leading digital proposals and projects.
- Design: You’re a great designer. You don’t mind getting your hands dirty, and your eye for aesthetics has led you to solve significant design challenges through hands–on design work, art– and creative direction on a wide variety of digital design mediums, products, projects and campaigns.
- Management: You possess effective management–mentoring and coaching skills. You’re an experienced leader and you’re passionate about fostering, growing, educating, motivating a team of creative professionals.
- Passion: You’re passionate about great design, art– and creative direction. You value and shape work that is thoughtful, impactful, significant, exciting, and industry–leading.
- Precision: You have a deep and thorough understanding of graphic, digital and general design theory, its fundamentals, design principles and best practices. You skillfully tie design elements together with thorough attention to detail to support the overall design execution and creative narrative.
- Soft-skills: Your exemplary soft-skills ensure you’re great to work with and a creative problem solver in an ever–changing industry. Using your seasoned experience in production, you deftly navigate and surmount internal politics and production challenges. You collaborate fluently with colleagues and clients alike.
- Hard-skills: Mastery of all modern design and prototyping tools. You are tidy, detail-oriented and you know how to logically organize your work and deliverables making the lives of your colleagues easier.
- Balance: Mindful of your own work/life balance and that of your colleagues, you’re able to effectively balance budgets, schedules, deadlines, managing and making. Within these constraints, you are inventive, flexible, resourceful and dedicated in making each proposal and delivery a success.
